        • Son of Mary Neil Birrell, whose name was included on the 1864 Rawlins Company roster. The company he traveled with was also noted in local church financial records. The Birrell family traveled to New York together by way of the ship General McClellan. They then continued their westward journey as part of the Rawlins company.
