  • Son of William Bannister Poppleton and Sarah Stennett.  At the time of the 1860 federal census young William was living in Omaha, Nebraska; in a brief autobiographical sketch he wrote: "In the spring of 1860 immigration to Utah was the word.  Judson S. Stoddard came to Omaho [sic] and hired me to drive a 4 mule team across the plains.  I arrived in Bountiful late in the fall, later I moved to Cache Valley where I have lived ever since."  William appears in the Utah Territorial Militia records at Cache Valley in 1861.
