• Mette Johansen and her husband Johannes crossed the Atlantic on the ship Emerald Isle in 1868.  Johannes was a farmer. They received financial assistance from the Perpetual Emigrating Fund but Johannes died 21 August 1868, before the Holman Company began its overland trek.
