Henry Larkin Southworth
Henry and his wife, Lucinda, traveled to the Salt Lake Valley with an unknown company in 1853. They were married in early 1853 in Illinois and the first documentation to place them in the Valley is the birth of a child on 21 May 1854, which was prior to that year's emigration season. Lucinda's obituary confirms their travel in 1853. Further research is needed to identify the name of the company with which they traveled.
His obituary indicates that he was "one of the party that was dispatched to the Missouri river by President Brigham Young to assist the first hand cart emigrants to cross the plains." It is uncertain if this is actually indicating that he was part of the rescue effort the winter of 1856, or if he was sent out earlier in the season as an emigration agent to help get the companies organized. Further research is needed to determine if he should be assigned to the Rescue Companies.
