William and his wife, Mary Jones Deakin, arrived in New York on 1 May 1860 via the ship Underwriter. The 1860 New York census shows them in the same household as two sons, one of which did not travel to Utah. It appears as though William traveled to Utah in 1862 with his son, Robert and wife, and then returned to the States a couple of years later to get his wife, Mary. William and Mary returned to Utah together in the 1864 Warren Company.
The surname is "Dakin" on "Names of Immigrants" list.
