George Washington Catlin
He made his first trip to the Valley in 1847, coming east from California with a number of other Mormon Battalion veterans. At some point, he continued east to Winter Quarters because he seen crossing the plains again in 1850 with the Snow/Young Company, in which he served as guardsman.
Some sources (Improvement Era), vol. 8, 232 and Journal History, 19 Nov. 1904, 3) have confused the death of George Washington Clawson (who died in Shelley, Idaho, on 19 Nov. 1904) with the death of George Washington Catlin. The Improvement Era and Journal History are incorrect because Catlin died in 1898.
