  • His death date is not known. His mother's obituary in 1884 stated that he "was never heard from since she moved to Providence in 1862.

    When John set out for the west he was a private in the Mormon Battalion but he was promoted to the rank of Corporal at Santa Fe.  His name appears in the records of the Utah Territorial Militia at Salt Lake City in 1851, 1852 and 1853.

    His name also appears with his parents and siblings on the 1842 manifest of the ship Hanover.
