  • Michael and a sister Annie were traveling with parents Matthew and Ann and arrived in Boston on 20 April 1857 via the ship George Washington. The family is first documented in the Valley when Michael, his mother, and sister were rebaptized in the Seventeenth ward on 6 January 1858, which was prior to that year's emigration season. So, they must have crossed the plains in 1857.

Birth date is confirmed at the time of the rebaptism.

There is a "Father Gibbons" who traveled in the 1857 Jesse Martin Company. It is possible that Father Gibbons was actually Matthew Gibbons. If this can be documented, Matthew and his family could be moved to that company.
