  • He sailed to America with his mother and siblings in 1849 on the ship Buena Vista.

    In the 1850 Utah census he is listed as Thomas D. "Jones." (His mother had married Dan Jones in December 1849.) In the 1860 Utah census he is listed with his mother and some of his siblings under the surname "Lewis."
