A returning Mormon Battalion veteran, he traveled to Utah from California. He arrived in Salt Lake City about 13 October. ("He was a member of the Mormon Battalion and arrived in Salt Lake City twelve days after his wife and daughter . . . .", Deseret Weekly, 17 Apr. 1897, 563.) His wife, Mary Ann and daughter Sarah Ann came to Utah in 1847 with the Edward Hunter/Jacob Foutz pioneer company.
Mary Ann and Edward were rebaptized in salt Lake City on 12 February 1848.
