Joseph S. Milam
Son of William and Elizabeth Case Milam. He and his family lived in the Blockhouse, Iowa Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1846 to 1849. His parents and some of his siblings crossed the plains in the James McGaw Company of 1852 but sixteen-year-old Joseph's name is not on the original roster of this company. His obituary says he traveled to California in 1852 but this may be inaccurate since he sold land in Salt Lake City in 1854 and was called on a L. D. S. mission to Las Vegas at the April General Conference of the Church in 1855. A letter from Elder George W. Bean to Elder Thomas Bullock from "Los Vegas" on 11 September 1855 names Joseph S. Milam as one of the local missionaries. Additional research is needed to identify year Joseph crossed the plains and the name of the pioneer company with which he traveled.
