  • We know that James arrived in New York on 23 June 1864 via the ship The General McClellan. James does not appear on the official roster for the Warren Company. He is seen in the PEF collection as being responsible for the debt of Mary Sheen, who also traveled in that company. They married at some point after leaving England. It is likely that he is not on the emigrant lists because he hired out as a teamster to help pay his passage across the plains.

The company he traveled with was noted in local church financial records.

William S. Warren Company (1864)
