Cynthia Jane Jewett
Daughter of Samuel Jewett and Sophia Lance. Her father died in 1843 and her mother married Hyrum Dayton. The family was in Pottawattomie County Iowa at the time of the 1850 census; she is listed as "Cyntha Lance." Although Cynthia's obituary says she "came to Utah with her mother and stepfather . . . in 1889" this is incorrect. The name of her step-father is in the Salt Lake City Public Works record books on 2 January 1852, which was prior to that year's emigration season, so the family must have traveled in 1851.
At the time of the 1856 Utah Territorial census Cynthia was living in "St. One City, Cedar County, Utah (now part of Utah County. She was re-baptized at American Fork on 21 October 1856. She married Attewall Wootton in Utah. Further research is needed to identify the company with which she traveled.
