  • He came to Utah in either 1854 or 1855. He likely came in 1854, the year he and his wife sailed to America on the ship John M. Wood. But the first documentation to place them in Utah is the birth of a child in January 1856, prior to the arrival of that season's emigration. Further research is needed to narrow the year of their travel. His surname is also spelled "Finley," "Findley," and "Findlay" in different sources.

Came on the ship John M. Wood in 1854.
