  • The two Cook brothers, John and Joseph, sailed to America in 1864 on the ship Monarch of the Sea. John Cook's obituary confirms that he came to Utah that same year. Biographical research asserts that the two brothers traveled in the 1864 Murdock company, but their names are not on the comprehensive hand-written roster.

A couple years after, Joseph worked as a teamster for Joseph Rawlin's 1866 out-and-back company. Lingren's journal indicates he was accidentally shot on June 2nd and died on June 7th. West Jordan Ward records verify his birth and death date (though the death date is inaccurately noted as July 7th), the nature of his death, as well as noting that he was buried at "Cobble Hill, Nebraska Territory."
