  • Grace sailed to America in 1868 on the ship Colorado arriving in New York City on 28 July. The ship manifest lists her as being a widow, and no family members accompanied her.

Notations in the PEF ledger state she may be related to Peter Affleck in Logan, however the 1870 census shows her living with the Hilton family in Salt Lake. Grace married John Thornley in 1870.  The inscription on her gravestone shows her name as "Grace Affleck," and it confirms her birth and death dates.

Further research is needed to determine the name of the pioneer company with which she traveled to Utah.
