William Matthews III

  • William and his sons Samuel, George and Timothy sailed to America in 1850 on the ship James Pennell.  His wife Elizabeth Flinders Matthews died at sea.  He married Charlotte Swift 1853 in Missouri and a child Walter was born 1854 in Missouri.  Samuel was a teamster  in 1855 for Godbe Freight Train. 

    The surname is spelled "Mathews" on the ship records and the 1860 Utah census.

    Birth and death dates are confirmed by his burial record and Find A Grave website.
