  • In the 1851 England census Thomas' surname is spelled "Gawer."  He and his wife Jane Cresswell crossed the Atlantic on the ship Argo in 1850 with their three children: Ann, Elizabeth and Richard.  At St. Louis, Missouri Thomas lost his wife and two children to cholera leaving him alone with six year old Ann.  In 1850 he married Martha Ann Tidwell Stockdale, a widow who had lost her husband to cholera.  In the 1856 Utah Territorial census Thomas and his family were in Cedar City, Iron County.
