  • Philetus is the son of James Dewaine Davis and his wife Roxanna.  James died in Pottawattamie County, Iowa so Philetus crossed the plains with his mother and his sister Charlotte.

His mother married Ephraim Green, and in the 1850 Utah census, the family was in Green's household: Roxanna Green, Charlotte Green and Philetus Davis.  At the time of the 1856 Utah Territorial census Philetus was living in the Salt Lake 17th Ward.  He appears as "Phildaiz" Davis in the records of the Utah Territorial Militia in 1857.

Additional research is needed to determine the name of the pioneer company with which they crossed the plains.

The birth and death dates of Philetus are confirmed by his death certificate.

The Utah, Territorial Militia Records, dated 4 July 1857 show his name as "Phildaiz Davis."
