  • Son of Joseph and Hannah Maria Hartley Hall.  With his parents and siblings he crossed the Atlantic on the ship Hartley in 1849; the family name is spelled "Hales" on the ship manifest.  His father died at St. Louis.  In the 1860 Missouri census his surname is "Savage" because his mother had remarried.  He crossed the plains with his mother and step-father (Joseph Savage).  In the 1870 Utah census he is "Hyram Savage."
