  • The family sailed to America in 1856 on the ship Caravan. Her travel to Utah is confirmed by the obituary of her daughter Ane.

    Evidence from emigration and genealogical records proves that the Nielsen family traveled to Utah in 1857. Further research is needed to determine the name of the company they traveled with.

    Karen was a widow. Her husband died in St. Louis before the company departed.

    Her birth date is confirmed by the Denmark Church Records.
