He is seen in Pottowattamie County, Iowa in the 1850 Census, as well as the 850 Utah census (enumerated in the Spring of 1851), proving that Daniel traveled to Utah in 1850. The 1900 Census verifies birth month and year. His identity is further confirmed by the reminiscence of his cousin who traveled in 1853, who states that her cousin Daniel Mecham, came out on the plains to bring her company fresh fruits and vegetables because they were running low on supplies.
Further research is needed to identify the name of the company he traveled with.
He was registered to vote in California in August of 1892 so death date would be some time after that.
