  • Mary emigrated to the United States in 1863. She sailed on the ship Amazon and is listed on the ship manifest as "Mary Michel."

She traveled with her friend, Asenath, and Asenath's sister, Jane. Mary took a loan from P.E.F. and Asenath and Jane were bonded to Mary.

A family source suggests that she traveled to Utah with the Thomas Ricks (1863) company. More research is required to confirm whether she traveled with this or another company.

In December 1863, Mary married William Chugg in Salt Lake City as his second wife.
