  • Evidence from church records and the birth of Orson in Wyoming in September 1861 proves that John and his wife Cyrene with her children Smith Hicks, Anna Hicks, William Hicks, George Hicks, and Starks Hicks traveled to Utah in 1861. Further research is needed to determine the name of the company with which they traveled.

He was rebaptised in the Grantsville Ward on 13 May 1866.

His death date is confirmed by the inscription on his gravestone.
