  • Abel, his wife Emily and their son John T. Halliday crossed the Atlantic on the ship Jersey in 1853. The reminiscence of Lydia Pond Rich (quoted in "A story of the life of Emily Stevens Halliday Dalton," p. 7), indicates that they then crossed the plains in 1854.  Abel, Emily and John T. all appear in the Utah Territorial census of 1856 where their surname is spelled "Holliday." Additional research is needed to identify the exact year they crossed the plains and the name of the pioneer company with which they traveled.
