  • Wife of Abel Halliday and mother of John Thomas Halliday.  Emily and her family crossed the Atlantic on the ship Jersey in 1853. The reminiscence of Lydia Pond Rich (quoted in "A story of the life of Emily Stevens Halliday Dalton," p. 7), indicates that they then crossed the plains in 1854. Abel, Emily and their son John T. all appear in the Utah Territorial census of 1856 where their surname is spelled "Holliday."  At some point they returned east because Abel died at St. Louis Missouri.  Emily and two of her children returned to Utah with the George Dunford Company of 1867, she serving as cook.
