  • The family sailed to America in 1849 on the ship Henry Ware.

Evidence from emigration and church records proves that the Furniss family traveled to Utah in 1854 or 1855. Further research is needed to determine the year they came to Utah and the name of the company they traveled with.

The obituary of Thomas states that he came to Utah when he was 9 years of age, which would make his arrival about 1851.  That age seems to be incorrect because a sister was born in Connecticut in 1851, and a brother was born in Kansas in 1854.
