  • Initially, Loveland traveled to the Valley in 1850 as part of the Warren Foote company. Records indicate that he served as a captain of ten and his traveling group consisted of nine people.

At some point traveled to Carson Valley, Nevada with a small group, including Orson Hyde. He returned to Utah, arriving on 24 October 1855. His return travel included Seth Dustin, George Washington Hancock, and Shepard Pierce Hutchings. (See "Arrivals," Deseret News, 31 Oct. 1855.) Orson Hyde did not return with them.

Then, both in 1857 and 1868, Loveland served as a company captain, assisting new emigrants across the plains to Salt Lake City.
