  • Helene emigrated to the United States with her husband, Nils Dahl, and brother-in-law, Alexander Dahl. They sailed on the James Nesmith. She is listed on the ship manifest under the name "Helena Mathisdatter."

Neils died near Mormon Grove, Kansas. Neils died sometime before October 1855. Jens C. Nielsen visited Mormon Grove in 1855 and describes Neils's resting place in a journal entry dated October 30.

Helene does not appear by name on the "Immigration List" in the Deseret News. However, Alexander Dahl does with the number "2" next to his name indicating that two additional people traveled with him. Neils and Helene were those two people.
