Augusta Bowen Cleveland
August initially traveled to the Salt Lake Valley with her husband, John Lyman Smith, and his family in 1847 with the Daniel Spencer/Perrigrine Sessions Company, according to Jesse Nathaniel Smith’s journal.
Other members of his family in the same company were his parents, John Smith and Clarissa Loomis Lyman, his sister, Caroline Clara, with her husband, Thomas Callister, and his second wife and daughter, Helen Marr Clark and Helen Marr.
John’s brother, George Albert Smith, had traveled prior to the rest of the family with the Brigham Young Pioneer Company in 1847. According to Jesse Nathaniel Smith’s journal, the rest of the Smith family met George Albert Smith traveling east with a group including Brigham Young, Parley P. Pratt, and Willard Richards. They camped one day together and then parted ways and resumed their separate journeys.
Her birth and death dates are confirmed by the Eastern Idaho Death Records Database and the inscription on her gravestone.
