Mrs. Matilda A. Davis of Duchesne died at Vernal Friday night, March 11. Mrs. Davis was taken to Vernal a sort time ago for medical aid and her death was rather sudden. The deceased was buried in Vernal Monday, a large attendance was giving at the funeral and burial services.
The deceased was Miss Matilda Robison and was born in Birmingham, England, and came to this country with her parents to Wanship, Utah when she was 11 years old. She was married to Allen Davis in 1867 at the age of fifteen. Soon after marriage they moved to Paris, Ida., and in 1878 they moved to Vernal where they resided until about 1903 when they came to Duchesne and located about 11 miles up Indian canyon. To this union were born 13 children, 4 girls and 9 boys. Those living to mourn the loss of their mother are Albert, Frank and Guy Davis, of Duchesne, Mrs. Matilda Atwood of Hanna, and Mrs. Florence Kelly of Vernal.
The deceased was 75 years old at death. Mr. Davis the husband died about 11 years ago at the age of 81.
Mrs. Davis will be missed by a host of friends. She was a most lovable character. She was always pleasant under all circumstances. She was an ideal wife, mother and neighbor. She had made her home in the Uintah basin for nearly fifty years and in that time and made many friends to mourn her departure.
