We got Nathan Meeks to take us up to where her folks lived and we were married by William Snow in 1850; and my wife [Sara Jane Wilson Dailey] crossed the plains with me.
While traveling up the LaPlatte [Platte] River, cholera broke out in our company and one man by the name of John Burns and his wife, a daughter of James Porter, died, leaving an infant son named James Burns. My wife and I having a cow along took care of the babe and brought him to Lehi, to his grandparents, James Porter and wife.
