Newly Accessible Collections, July 2023

Explore dozens of recently digitized collections to enable your research wherever you are in the world.

Below, you’ll find a list of materials in the Church History Catalog that are newly accessible. Consider, for example, the Martha Spence Heywood autograph book, 1828–1859 (MS 2119). Martha Spence Heywood was an early Latter-day Saint and pioneer who helped settle the Utah cities of Nephi and Washington. Her autograph book, which she treated more like a scrapbook, contains poetry from her friends and Church leaders, including Parley P. Pratt, John Taylor, Orson Hyde, Eliza R. Snow, and Vilate Kimball, among many others. It also includes art, such as pencil sketches, watercolor paintings, and engravings. Interestingly, the book also includes locks of hair from John Taylor, Erastus Snow, and Franklin D. Richards, along with a geometrical analysis of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

This month’s list of digitized collections also includes several sources originally published by other branches of the broader Latter-day Saint movement not affiliated with the Church, such as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (now known as the Community of Christ). Such sources are identified here by their titles.

When a collection has a title that is similar to another collection—as with the multiple versions of For the Strength of Youth below—its publication date is listed for clarity. For some of the following collections, log-in may be required to view them online.
