Evidence from emigration and church (Perpetual Emigrating Fund) records proves that Ellen and her daughter Beda traveled to Utah in 1863. Further research is needed to determine the name of the company they traveled with.In some sources her name is "Helene Gustafva Svartling."

Ellen Lena and Bada Swartling sailed to America in 1863 on the ship John J. Boyd.    The ship manifest shows her name as "Helene Gustafva Svartling."
 
Ellen was a widow and came with her daughter.
 
Her birth and death dates are confirmed by the inscription on her gravestone, which shows her name as "Ellen G. Reese."
 
In the 1870 Utah census she is shown as living in the household of David Reese.
