Near the end of January 1841 George Watt returned home to visit his wife and found her very ill. He wrote to Brigham Young on 29 January, 1841 and explained the situation and expressing the goal of returning to his mission in Scotland "in about three weeks". At the end of February 1841, Watt returned to Edinburgh, bringing his family with him.
On 6 April 1841 he was called to preside over the Edinburgh Conference.
