Called to the gold fields of California to gather much-needed funds for God's work.
Transferred from California as a gold pan missionary. Labored on Maui and was able to translate the Book of Mormon into Hawaiian with the assistance of Jonathan Napela.
He oversaw the printing of the Book of Mormon in Hawaiian and the publication of The Western Standard newspaper.
In May 1862, he was called back to the United States to do church business in Washington D.C.. He returned to England in July 1863.
