Hannah Cowen crossed the Atlantic on the ship James Pennell in 1849 with three of her children from a previous marriage: James Fairclough, Sarah Fairclough and Peter Fairclough.  On 24 July 1850 in the federal census they were all in the household of a Robert Cohen in St. Louis Missouri listed as Anna, James, Sarah and Peder Fairclough.  This was late enough in the year that they must have crossed the plains in 1851 as is mentioned in the obituary of Peter.   Hannah was re-baptized on 1 February 1852 at Salt Lake City, Utah.  At the time of the 1856 Utah Territorial census Hannah "Cowen" was living in the Salt Lake 5th Ward; James and Peter Fairclough were in the Salt Lake 7th Ward.  In 1860 they were all in the 5th Ward.  The fate of Sarah is currently unknown.  Further research is needed to identify the name of the pioneer company with which the family crossed the plains.
