There are two trees for John Ray Young on FamilySearch Trees. They appear to be the same individual but with some differences. On the ordinance records, one has his baptism and confirmation date as Jan. 1848; the other one has a 1964 date for baptism and a 1 Feb 1849 confirmation date. Death date 1931.

John Ray Young filled a mission to the Sandwich Islands. (Jour. Hist. Apr. 7, 1854) Source Bio. Ency. vol. 2, p. 274 and Hawaii, Aug 29, 1854. Journal History supplied information that he was ordained a Seventy, that he was assigned to Oahu and that he was a traveling elder serving on Maui, Hawaii and Molokai. It also gave information that he returned to Utah in 1858. Bio. Ency gave the he was released in 1857 and had to work his way home.

Settled in Santa Clara, Washington, Utah with most of those called at the same time. From Bio. Ency we learn that in 1862 he was called to go to Omaha and help gather the poor and was captain of one of the emigration companies.

Jour. Hist.: John R. Young, Orderville was called on a mission in Europe and left May 8th. Sept. 9, 1878 was released and left Liverpool on Sept. 14th. Bio.Ency. has that in 1867 he was ordained as a High Priest and set apart to be on the High Council in St. George.
