Mercy Rachel Fielding (1807 - 1893) Profile

Mercy Rachel Fielding

Mercy Rachel Fielding was born 15 June 1807 in Honeydon, Bedfordshire, England, United Kingdom, daughter of John and Rachel (Ibbotson) Fielding, the ninth child out of ten. We know that Mercy, Mary her sister and her brother, Joseph Fielding immigrate  Canada because on 21 May 1836 (a couple of weeks after John Taylor is baptized in the same creek) Mercy is baptized at Black Creek, near Toronto by Parley P. Pratt, along with Joseph Fielding and her sister, Mary into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Joseph Fielding and his sisters then move to Kirkland, Ohio in April, 1837.

Mercy married Robert Blashel Thompson on 4 June 1837, in Kirtland Township, Geauga, Ohio, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. However, Robert Thompson dies in 1841. Mercy travels with the Saints to Nauvoo, where she marries Hyrum Smith for eternity. After Hyrum is murdered in 1844, Mercy is a widow again.

On the 23 January 1846 she is married to John Taylor in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States. However Mercy makes the journey out west in the Daniel Spencer/Perrigrine Sessions company with her daughter, Mary Jane Thompson, which is a different company than the John Taylor family journeyed with. According to 1850 census records, she lived together with her daughter in Salt Lake city in a house right next to the home of her brother, Joseph. Mercy dies on 15 September 1893 at age 71.
