Hyrum Smith
One of the Eight Witnesses of the Book of Mormon, June 1829. Among six original members of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6 Apr. 1830. Appointed second counselor in First Presidency, 7 Nov. 1837. Succeeded his father, Joseph Smith Sr. as church patriarch, 1841. Murdered at Carthage Jail along side of his brother, Joseph Smith Jr. (Joseph Smith Papers)
