The Cluff family traveled to the Salt Lake Valley with the Edward Hunter Company in 1850. The family included David and his wife Elizabeth Hall, and several of their sons: Benjamin, William Wallace, Harvey Harris, Samuel Sampson, Hyrum, Henry, Alfred Aaron, and Orson. Three of their sons, Moses, David Jr., and Joseph, traveled with the Blair company.
The family's travel to Utah in 1850 is mentioned in his obituaries.
The 1850 Utah census incorrectly shows the family's surname as "Celiff."
In 1863 he was a returning missionary from Denmark.
