Day in the Life

The manager of historic sites operations is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Church’s historic sites. As the primary point of contact, the manager is responsible for ongoing operational training and support of onsite leaders. The manager is the primary budget steward for the sites. They also collaborate with region teams, project teams, and other partners to ensure that the site is maintained in a way that provides a positive visitor experience. The manager serves as the point person for questions from those interested in serving at a historic site and recommends potential volunteers for service.

This job requires excellent communication and organizational skills to build strong relationships with site leaders and oversee the operational management of sites. This job requires timely and frequent communication responding to a variety of questions and concerns from individuals onsite. A background in operations and budgeting as well as the ability to research and respond to unexpected operational issues is essential.

Experience Pathway

The manager of historic sites operations should have a master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as public history, history, museum studies, education, business, public administration, or nonprofit management. Experience in historic site or museum administration is beneficial.
