Alma traveled to the Salt Lake Valley in 1864. Further research is needed to identify which company he traveled with. His mother is found in the Perpetual Emigrating Fund records on 15 October 1863, and his mother, Kirsten Petersen, is found in the Logan 1st Ward records on 17 October 1864.
He traveled with this mother and siblings on the Monarch of the Sea in 1864. His siblings that traveled with him were Carrie Christina Petersen, Soren Joseph Nielsen, and Nels Nelson. He also went by the name of Nelson.
