Museum Store

Do You Want to Volunteer at the Church History Museum?

Would you like to volunteer at the Church History Museum? We are always looking for passionate, enthusiastic docents to join our team. Volunteers are also needed at the museum store.

Volunteer as a Museum Docent

Museum docents, also called interpreters, help visitors learn about and connect with Church history and art. Using artifacts and artwork, docents share stories and information with museum patrons through object spotlights, gallery talks, activity carts, and other educational programs. Docents also serve at the information desk and provide a variety of guest services.

Docents are called to serve as Church-service missionaries for 24 months and are set apart by their bishops. They must be willing and available to work a minimum of one four-hour shift each week (see shift options below) and to spend additional time each week engaged in preparation, personal research, and enrichment. In addition, they are expected to learn exhibit content for all museum galleries and attend interpreter training classes, workshops, and all continuing education sessions sponsored by the museum. Good health and stamina are essential, as docents are continually on their feet. Docents should show genuine love to people and enjoy teaching patrons of all ages. Docents must also be worthy of a temple recommend. Extensive travel and extenuating family or Church commitments could make fulfilling this calling difficult, as consistent shift attendance is essential.
